Whilst the Met Gala is well underway in New York, we are sitting in our office here in Adelaide refreshing our feeds as we pick our favourite…and not so favourite looks of the night.
The theme of this years gala was Comme des Garçons by designer Rei Kawakubo, which has presented many glamorous (and strange) dressed celebrities to appear on the steps of the Met.
Rihanna, the queen of the Met Gala, always dresses in theme, and almost never disappoints. Wearing a Rei Kawakubo design (which to some may appear as an extravagant dress, but folds in beautifully with the Comme des Garçons theme), along with a simple high bun, Rihanna has won us over.
Zendaya wowed in a stunning Dolce & Gabbana dress with a tropical forest feel, and it is safe to say her hair and makeup team nailed the effortless wild beauty vibe.
Cara Delevingne appears ready for orbit, dressed in a silver Chanel suit, paired back with her newly shaven head painted silver and intriguingly bejewelled. We must hand it to her, the girl looks fab!
Hailey Baldwin definitely got it right in our books, beautiful, elegant, with a hint of sass, Hailey graced the carpet looking like royalty dressed by Carolina Herrera.
Madonna wore a camouflage dress, and unfortunately for us she didn’t do a good job in camouflaging into her surroundings. Madonna, we love you, but this year it’s a no from us.
Though many are either direct hits or misses, there are few that leave us starring blankly trying to determine whether we love it or hate it. Kendal Jenner was a key candidate for our mixed emotions category this year; though she did looked gorgeous we found her outfit a little too cheeky…
Rita Ora appeared as a Christmas present waiting to be unwrapped, as her dress was…well there’s no other way to put it…a large red bow wrapped around her body, she still looks glamorous, although it is not our favourite look of the night.
Bella Hadid channels her inner catwoman dressed in a tight, beaded, low back Alexander Wang jumpsuit. We love this look and think she absolutely nailed it, but are unsure if we like it for the Met Gala.
Jaden Smith - there are no words. Yes he looks handsome in his Louis Vuitton suit and freshly cut hair, but why is he holding his dreads as an accessory?! Or maybe he needed a last minute date?
Every year, she does it, and this year was no exception – Blake Lively always slays in her choice of attire, and today she did it in a gold and blue-feathered Versace gown. Along with the well-dressed man on her arm, Ryan Reynolds, always looking just as gorgeous as his wife.
Selena continues with her gorgeous girl next-door vibes, as her and the Weekend make their couple red carpet debut. A bold pink smoky eye with a nude lip was the perfect pairing for her sweet white lace dress by Coach.
Always a favourite - Chrissy Teigen and John Legend. John always scrubs up nicely, although we have mixed emotions about the gown choice for Chrissy, whilst she looks beautiful, we also get a Real Housewives in an atrociously over the top sexy night gown vibe.
We could keep going on forever with how many…different…looks were displayed at this years Met Gala, but for now we are going to leave it there. Let us know your thoughts, whether you agree or disagree with our picks, or if you found someone that flew under our radar!
